Meet the psychologists

Liliane Thoelen MSc.
Originally from France and Belgium, I have spent much of my life in the United States and South Korea before moving to the Netherlands for my studies. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in clinical psychology, with a specialization in legal and forensic psychology from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
My professional experience includes working as a psychologist at a psychiatric crisis center in Brussels and a specialized mental health care practice in The Hague, which has allowed me to develop a broad range of therapeutic skills across various approaches and contexts.
In addition, I currently work at a mental health hotline, where I provide immediate support to individuals in distress. This experience has sharpened my ability to respond quickly and effectively to crises, strengthened my communication skills, and further enriched my ability to offer compassionate care.
Alongside my clinical work at FreeMind, I am also involved in mental health prevention, helping people enhance their well-being and address potential challenges before they escalate. This proactive approach not only supports clients in maintaining their mental health and well-being but also enhances my ability to provide more effective therapeutic care by understanding how to address challenges early on.
I am currently undergoing a three-year psychotherapist training in Clinical Integrative Psychotherapy at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), which further enhances my ability to provide comprehensive, tailored care.
As a psychologist, building a strong therapeutic alliance is central to my practice. I prioritize open, honest communication to foster a trusting and collaborative relationship. My therapeutic approach is adapted to meet each client’s individual needs and goals, using evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Based in Rotterdam, I offer therapy in both French and English.
